Railways ends contracts with agency behind Patna station porn clip

Two days after hundreds of people were left red-faced when a pornographic clip was played on TV screens at Patna railway station, Indian Railways has terminated all contracts with the agency accused of airing the clip and initiated proceedings to blacklist the company.

ECR spokesperson Birendra Kumar said that the Indian Railways has severed all ties and contracts with the agency accused of broadcasting pornographic content on railway screens and that proceedings have been initiated to blacklist them.

Meanwhile, two separate FIRs have also been lodged against Kolkata-based service provider Dutta Studio after videos related to the incident surfaced on social media. The East Central Railway (ECR) in a communiqué informed the media about the FIRs filed in response to the incident, which railway officials termed as "shameful".

Of these, one FIR was registered by the Railway Protection Corps (RPF) while the other by the GRP under sections of the IT Act. On the other hand, the local authorities, outraged by the incident, decided to escalate the matter. If sources are to be believed, a Government Railway Police (GRP) team has been sent to West Bengal to investigate the incident.

Notably, all TV screens operated by Kolkata-based Dutta Studio have now been de-registered from the centralized display system with immediate effect. Following the subsequent investigation of the case registered by the GRP for violation of the IT Act, a team was deployed to West Bengal to thoroughly investigate the case and take it to its logical conclusion. The probe team will visit the Kolkata office of the service provider to collect and verify relevant inputs from other districts, if necessary.

According to senior GRP sources privy to the matter, a sabotage angle by a current or former employee has not been ruled out. The sources declined to say more pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
